The Australian – March 21, 2014
Suspended Cronulla Sharks coach Shane Flanagan is on the verge of signing a three-year extension that will keep him at the club until the end of 2017.
The Australian understands an announcement could be made as early as next week, providing some certainty for the embattled club at the end of a fortnight in which the club lost two of its best players and suffered a pair of heavy defeats.
Flanagan, who last week opted not to appeal against his 12-month ban from the NRL - three months of which was suspended - was off contract at the end of this season and talks over a new deal had been put on hold while the club and its coach responded to the sanctions they received over the supplement scandal.
That matter has now been put to bed, freeing both parties to put the finishing touches on a new contract.
